What sizes of GreenDog safety belts are available?
You can obtain a GreenDog safety belt in the standard sizes XS (extra small), S (small), M (medium) and L (large). These sizes cover 90% of dog breeds.
What to take into consideration when choosing the size of your dog’s safety belt
The size of the safety belt is determined according to the transverse length of the dog’s chest area (see picture). The measured size of the dog’s chest should roughly correspond to the length of the cushioned part of the safety belt covering the dog’s chest area.

What to take into consideration when choosing the size of your dog’s safety belt
The size of the safety belt is determined according to the transverse length of the dog’s chest area (see picture). The measured size of the dog’s chest should roughly correspond to the length of the cushioned part of the safety belt covering the dog’s chest area.
Measuring the transverse length of the dog’s chest area
The volume of the chest area is not decisive for the size of the safety belt, due to the fact that it is individually adjustable using the four-point quick-fastening system placed on the dog’s back.
Is the width of the safety belt adjustable according to the individual size of the dog’s chest area?
Various “giant” breeds occur within each breed category of dogs. For this reason the Green Dog safety belt has been developed in order to enable individual adjustment of the belt to the chest volume of each individual dog. The individual volume of the dog’s chest area can be easily set using the four-point quick-fastening system placed on the dog’s back.
Is it possible to set the size of the safety belt also according to the weight of the dog?
The size of the safety belt can also be approximately derived from the dog’s weight. In the table you can find referential recommendations of which size of safety belt is suitable according to individual breeds.

How is the dog’s safety ensured?
The Green Dog safety belt is made from high strength polyester, which is used in the production of ordinary car safety belts. The dog’s thorax is perfectly encompassed by cushioning, produced from a special foam material which ensures maximum comfort for your dog. The Green Dog safety belt is perfectly balanced. In this manner it conveys the pressure ensuing in the case of impact or abrupt stopping to the entire volume of the safety belt, and not only part thereof. In the case of impact or abrupt stopping this cushioning prevents serious injury to the dog’s chest area.
How is the belt fitted in the car?
The Green Dog safety belt is attached to the existing safety belt in the car. For this reason it can be used in any type of car.
- First set the length of the belt to the maximum size (only during the first fitting). The length of the belts is set by the quick-fasteners.
- Undo the rear quick-fasteners (further from the dog’s head) and place the Green Dog safety belt over the dog’s head with the cushioned side in the direction of the dog’s chest.
- Fasten the rear quick-fasteners.
- adjust the length of the belt to the volume of the dog’s chest, so that the Green Dog safety belt closely fits over the entire volume of the dog’s thorax.
- Lace the existing car safety belt in a loop on the rear side of the Green Dog safety belt placed on the back of the dog, and feed the end of the belt into the arrester catch.
